Puppetry For All
Goals & Objectives
This class will explore a variety of puppetry techniques from around the world with a focus on puppet construction, performance and fostering individual creativity and group participation. For one hour each week we will construct and operate a different type of puppet, including shadow puppets, hand puppets, marionettes, japanese bunraku style puppets, rod puppets and more! This class is available to all ages and will be taught by filmmaker, puppeteer and visual artist James Hyland who graduated with a certificate in narrative arts from The Art Students League of New York and employs puppetry in his work with the Bread and Puppet theatre in Vermont.

1) Foster creativity, self-expression, and imaginative storytelling in an inclusive, supportive group environment.
2) Build collaboration, confidence, and communication skills through shared artistic experiences.
3) Construct multiple types of puppets using a variety of materials and techniques.
4) Demonstrate basic puppet manipulation skills such as movement, gesture, focus, and character expression.
5) Gain awareness of puppetry as a global art form with historical and cultural significance.
